WELCOME TO THE FIRST METRO MAYOR'S YOUNG PERSONS' ADVISORY GROUP NEWSLETTER

First of all, a huge thank you to you all for joining the Metro Mayor’s Young Persons’ Advisory Group. So far, more than 100 young people have joined the group. It’s our aim to increase this to 1,000 people from right across our great City Region, so that the collective voice of young people is heard loud and clear, as the Metro Mayor and Combined Authority make the crucial decisions that affect all of our futures.

Remember, if you think any of your friends or family would be interested in joining the group, help us to spread the word by sharing the registration link with them: https://lcrmetromayorsyouthgroup.commonplace.is/

Most of you will have taken part in the conversation with the Metro Mayor on Wednesday 3rd June about the impact of COVID-19 on young people. Steve was delighted with how engaged you all were in the event and we have shared all of the questions submitted on the day with him. As he mentioned, he’s going to make sure that he shares your feedback with the Prime Minister and Education Secretary.

You submitted so many questions during the event and it wasn’t possible to answer them all. However, our Policy Team will be providing written answers to all of these questions and we’ll share that with you, hopefully by the end of the month, along with a report about the event so that we can keep the conversation going.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO TEST THE NEW LCR LEARNS WEBSITE

One of the biggest concerns you had about the impact of COVID-19 was on the theme of education. While the Metro Mayor and Combined Authority have limited powers over education, our Employment and Skills Team have been busy developing a new website called LCR Learns , which allows you to search for courses and learning opportunities across the city region.

Before we launch it, we’d love it if you could take the time to have a look at the site and let us know what you think about:

  • The look of the site and how easy it is to get around.
  • Whether you can find the information you are looking for.
  • Any other information you would like to see included.
  • The link is https://learn.be-more.info/ and you can give us your feedback simply by writing to education@liverpoolcityregion-ca.gov.uk by Friday 19th June .

    WHAT'S COMING UP?

We want to ensure that the Metro Mayors’ Young Persons’ Advisory Group is led by young people. To do this, we want to get you involved in shaping the group from the very start. For example, what do you think the group should be called? (The current name is a bit of a mouthful, isn’t it!) How would you like us to keep in touch with you? How can the group and the wider Combined Authority help you to achieve your personal goals?

In order for us to learn more, we’ll be arranging some online discussions over the next few months designed to give you the opportunity to have your say on how the group should work. We’ll be writing to you with more info on this very soon. The Metro Mayor is also keen to ensure that young people are represented on a number of important groups looking at issues including climate change, poverty and life chances, how we make the city region a fairer place to live in and also how we improve our local town centres. If you’re interested, we’ll be letting you know how you can get involved soon!

    LOCAL PRIDE IS AT STAKE!

This weekend, Steve is taking part in a livestream DJ battle with the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, to establish which city region has the greatest musical heritage as well as raise money for charity. We all know that this isn't really a contest. After all, Liverpool is in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the city whose artists have generated the most number one hits! Make sure you help to make our voice heard by voting. You can read more about the contest here .

    LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST...

If you haven’t yet let us know what you thought about last week’s webinar, don’t forget to have your say by completing a really short survey. Your feedback is crucial in helping us to improve how we run similar events in the future. You can take part here .

    Stay safe everyone!
